waste2wow (previously Tswelopele Recycling) is a small design and manufacturing studio in the heart of Johannesburg and is a programme run under Metro Evangelical Service (MES). MES is a community based organisation that initiates and facilitates activities to empower people holistically to live independent, sustainable and meaningful lives.

The organisation was started to address the pressing needs of the poor in the inner city of Johannesburg. They are especially concerned with addressing the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of the homeless and unemployed, challenging individuals to take responsibility for their lives and sustain themselves.

One of MES’ four focus strategies is job creation and training. waste2wow is a product of this strategy. The programme’s mission is to develop job creation opportunities combined with specialized training to ensure a sustainable income to the workers. 

waste2wow recycles advertising billboards, turning the billboard material into creative and desirable items. besides creating job opportunities, this eco-friendly iniative turns trash into terrific and waste into wow!
